#Memphis2Maine: And so it begins.

Tonight, I'm sitting in the living room of a beautiful, quiet home in Knoxville, TN, my first stop on this tour from Memphis to Maine. I'm en route to my first house concert of the tour which happens tomorrow night in Christiansburg, VA, the first of 10 shows along this long-awaited (by me, at least) tour to the Northeast. (If you are thinking,"Huh? What tour?" you should click here.)

This tour is a big deal for me. It's a big deal because I've never before booked this many dates when traveling/touring. I've never driven from Memphis to Maine. I've never met most of the people hosting me on this tour, whether in houses or on stages in a coffee and wine bar. I've just never quite done this.

And for those reasons it felt like a good time for a blog re-birth.

For those of you who read the old blog, you can still find it here. I'll probably find a home for it here on the website one of these days. And for those of you reading a blogpost of mine for the first time - welcome. Not only do I like to write songs, I like to write blogposts.

[I also like rest areas. It's my goal to hold my bladder as long as I can until I get to a rest area. Enjoy this photo of a hand dryer I saw today when I stopped at one of them.]

Many folks have expressed curiosity about the tour and some of those same folks said, "You need to blog about the tour!" It felt like a sign of sorts, to have so many people say the same thing. So, here it is.

I won't do a play-by-play about each show; we both know that'd get boring quickly. But I will answer some of your questions, like, "How did this tour come to be?" and "Did you plan it yourself?" and "So, do you just ask someone to let you come play music in their house?" and "Where will you stay?" And, of course, there might be pictures of food and nature. Ok, there will be pictures of food and nature.

The hour is getting late, and the supposed-to-make-you-sleepy tea will be kicking in soon, so...

Happy touring to all and to all a good night!
